Project Plan

Design

Warren Claytor Architects of Wayne, Pennsylvania was hired to lead the initial phase of design for the 1910 mansion designed by the prolific architect of American country estates, Charles Barton Keen.

Evolving the mansion’s dated residential interior into a vibrant public-friendly destination while preserving its architectural character was a top priority and beautifully achieved in Claytor’s work. Notable design elements include the seamless integration of the new wing, the restoration of the original red tile Ludowici roof, and new outdoor gathering spaces including a roof-top terrace, covered porch and tented event terrace.

Construction

The revitalization project will be executed in phases. Improvements include replacing the 80-year roof, rebuilding the chimneys, making the building water tight, opening several interior walls, reframing, drywall, paint and finish work plus installing new HVAC, electrical, and plumbing among other projects. The removal of the solarium and the construction of a covered porch with rooftop veranda, new terraces and public restroom access are also part of the vision.

Construction work is scheduled to begin in 2019 with a grand opening is expected in 2021.
