Project Plan

Design

Archer & Buchanan Architecture of West Chester, Pennsylvania will lead the revitalization efforts to transform the Willows Mansion from a residential dwelling to community hub and nature retreat.

Evolving the mansion’s dated residential interior into a vibrant public-friendly destination while preserving the architectural character of this Charles Barton Keen designed structure was a top priority and beautifully achieved in Archer & Buchanan’s work.

Notable design elements include the seamless integration of the new wing, the restoration of the original red tile Ludowici roof, and new indoor and outdoor gathering spaces including an expansive walk out terrace, sun room and tented event space.

Construction

The Willows Park Preserve has engaged the services of Archer & Buchanan Architecture for the second phase of design focused on transforming the former residence into a community hub. The Willows Mansion is a beautiful example of Spanish Revival-style architecture designed by prolific American architect Charles Barton Keen and built-in 1910. Restoring the Mansion to its turn-of-the-century grandeur tops the list of priorities for Archer & Buchanan. As does the creation of a new addition, reminiscent of a historic Orangery that will be a gathering and event space with walkout pond views from the new slate terrace. Plans also call for the restoration of a handful of charming outdoor areas, including the Wishing Well Circle and Fountain Wall Courtyard.

Construction work has already begun and will be completed by June of 2022.

OUR PHILOSOPHY BEGINS WITH THE BELIEF THAT BUILDINGS WILL BE INHABITED FOR A CENTURY OR MORE AND SHOULD CONTINUE TO GAIN CHARACTER, BEAUTY, AND VALUE AS THE YEARS PASS.
